All-in: betting all of your remaining chips on a poker hand you believe to have won, or betting all of your chips when your chip stack is low in the hopes of doubling up.

Ante: a required bet that all players at the table must put into a pot, for no limit texas holdem, antes usually start after several rounds of play.

Bad Beat: when a poker hand that is the odds on favorite to win is beaten by a lesser hand.

Big Blind: a forced bet by the second player to act in a hand, the big blind also represents the minimum amount that another player must bet in order to enter a pot.

Bluff: a deceptive bet by a player that has a weak hand, but is being aggressive and representing a much stronger hand.

Boat: slang term for a poker player with a full house, also called a "Full Boat".

Bullets: a poker player holding a pair of Aces, also known as "Pocket Rockets".

Burn Card: a card that is discarded prior to dealing a flop, turn or river.

Buy-in: the cost to join a poker game.

Call: placing a bet equal to a bet placed prior to your turn.

Cash Out: finishing in the money of a poker game.

Catch: having a drawing hand, such as a straight or a flush, and receiving the card(s) needed to make a winning hand.

Check: when you are involved in a hand but elect not to bet any more chips.

Check-Raise: an aggressive play when a player does not bet when it is his turn, but then raises a bettor who enters the hand behind him.

Collusion: when 2 or more players work together against the rest of the table.

Community Cards: the cards that are dealt out face up in texas holdem poker. All of the players may uses these cards to make their hand.

Dealer-button: a table marker that identifies which player is the dealer, this player is dealt cards last and will also act last in the betting rounds after the flop.

Deuces: having a pair of two's as your hole cards.

Donk: a bad poker player, the Donk will play bad cards and generally make many mistakes when compared to "Proper Poker".

Drawing Dead: holding a hand in poker that has no chance of beating another player's hand.

Fifth Street: the final round of betting in texas holdem poker, also known as the "River Card".

Flop: the first three community cards dealt out to players.

Fold: when a player elects to discard his hole cards and cease playing in the current hand.

Fourth Street: the second round of betting in texas holdem poker, also knows as the "Turn Card".

Four Flush: when a player has a combination of four suited cards and hopes to make a flush with a fifth suited card.

Tilt: when a player looses focus and starts making irrational decisions in his poker game. A player can go on tilt due to a poorly played hand, a Suck Out, or from spirited table talk.

Gut Shot: when a player has a combination of four cards that can make a straight, but is missing a middle card to make the straight.

Heads Up: when only two players are playing a game of poker, Heads Up usually occurs at the end of a poker tournament when all of the other players have been knocked out.

Hole Cards: the two cards a texas holdem poker player is holding.

Kicker: the second best card in a players hand, when two players tie with a pair in a hand, the kicker is used to determine who has the better hand.

Limping In: simply calling a bet or raise to stay in a hand.

Monster: a very strong hand that is very difficult to beat.

Muck: cards that are discarded during the course of a hand, players who fold send their cards to the Muck and Burn Cards are also placed in the Muck.

Nuts: holding the best possible poker hand.

Nut Flush: holding the best possible flush, generally an Ace high flush is considered the Nut Flush, but a straight flush beats a Nut Flush and can be considered the best possible flush hand.

Offsuit: having two hole cards that are not in the same suit.

Outs: the number of cards left in the deck that will make a winning poker hand.

Pocket Rockets: holding a pair of Aces as your hole cards.

Proper Poker: playing poker hands as most players expect, that is to raise with strong hands, check or fold with weak hands and bet according to the hand a player is holding.

Quads: making a hand with 4 of a kind.

Rake: the money that is given to the house for hosting a poker game.

Rags: weak cards that have a low percentage chance of winning a poker hand.

Rainbow: on the flop in texas holdem poker when none of the cards are of the same suit.

Raise: when a player bets at a hand or raises the bet of another player already in the hand.

River Card: the final community card dealt in texas holdem poker.

Rock: players who rarely play hands, won't chase hands and only play strong hands are said to be playing like a Rock.

Semi-bluff: when a player bets at a hand that isn't currently winning but has good percentage chance to win by catching the card they need to make their hand a winning hand.

Showdown: after the final card is dealt and all betting has been completed, the remaining players show their cards to determine the winning hand.

Slow Play: a non-aggressive style of poker where players wait for very strong hands and hope that over aggressive players bet so that they can win more chips.

Small Blind: a required bet by the first person to act in a texas holdem poker game, the small blind is half the amount of the big blind and half the minimum amount required to enter a hand.

Splash the pot: throwing chips into a pot, making it difficult to know exactly how many chips have been bet.

Stack: the number of chips that a player has to play with.

Steal: betting aggressively at a pot in the hopes of getting the rest of the players to fold their hands.

Suck Out: when a player with an inferior hand and low odds of improving hits a card that beats a stronger hand.

Suited Connectors: two hole cards of the same suit and in numerical successive rank, for example 67 of hearts.

Turn Card: the fourth community card dealt in texas holdem poker.

Under the Gun: the player who must act first in the next betting round.
